    two degree of freedom is associated with one vibrational mode ... for calculating total degree of freedom-3 for translation, 3 for rotation and 2 for vibration...

    To solve all such type of questions you should know two things- 1. Cv=fR/2 and Cp=Cv+R 2. you should know the correct value of 'f' ie, degree of freedom of molecule. in the given ques it says that molecule is 3D, and 3D rigid objects has 6 degrees of freedom. furthermore it is given in ques that 'one vibrational mode is excited', here you should know that each vibrational mode consists of 2 d. o. f. so here total degree of freedom becomes 6+2 = 8. now put f=8 in Cv formula
