1.2 Estimate the time that a nitrogen molecule moving at rms will take in travelling across your lecture theatre of length 10 m. Assume that it does not undergo any (Ans: t 0.02 s) collision. A parallel beam of nitrogen molecules moving with velocity 400 ms impinges on a wall at an angle of 30° to the normal. If n = 9x 10 m, calculate the pressure exerted by the beam on the wall assuming that the molecules suffer elastic collisions. 1.3 Ans: p 1 atm)
