    isobutylene is obtained. Elimination occur This is one of the shortcomings of williamson ether synthesis that with tertiary alkyl halide and sodium methoxide reaction doesn't leads to the formation of ether as before formation of ether there is formation of tertiary carbocation which is stabilized by 9 alpha hydrogen...so one alpha hydrogen donates its electron density and formation of alkene takes place..
