    Shweta you are correct but it is only when you calculate shielding constant for S or P orbital.But when you find shielding constant for an electron in d orbital you have to multiply by 0.35 for electron in d and multiply by 1 for n-1 orbital

    From the question, we know that   Effective nuclear charge Z=atomic number Zinc atomic number (z) = 30 σ= Shielding constant for outermost e- σ=1×0.35+18×0.85+10×1.00=25.65 effective nuclear charge = 30- 25.65 4.35 for d electron see page. from the two value you can conclude that while exciting electron it is 4s which is excited first as it has low effective nuclear charge
