Problem solving: A uniform ladder 20 ft long weighing 50 pounds, is placed with its upper end against a vertical wall and its lower end on a horizontal floor. If the ladder is placed at an angle of 15 degrees with the wall and if coefficient of friction is 0.2 for both wall and floor, (a) What horizontal force at the bottom will cause slipping outward? (b) What force will cause slipping inward ? (c) How far up the ladder may a weight of 150 pounds be placed before slipping starts ? (d) Draw free-body diagram (fbd) for items (a) and (b) for the given problem.
