For the formation of ionic bond, the two atoms taking part in bond formation must have opposite behavior. The conditions are the following: (1) One of the atoms must be a metal and the other must be a non-metal. (2) The two atoms must be positioned very far away in the periodic table. The metal atom must be on the very left side and the non-metal atom must be on the very right side of the periodic table, so that: (3) the metal atom has very low ionization energy so that it loses electrons easily to form cations (+ charged ions). In other words, the metal atom must be highly electropositive. (4) the non-metal atom must have very high ionization energy or very high electron affinity, so that it easily attracts electrons (from the metal) and forms anions (- charged ions). In other words, the non-metal atom must be highly electronegative. The bond is “considered to be” ionic if the difference in electronegativity between the two atoms is greater than 1.5 If the atoms are positioned nearby in the periodic table (or are of the same type; both metal or both non-metal), they usually form covalent bonds.

    option A,B,C are correct

Explanation: Ionization energy is defined as the energy necessary to remove an electron from a gaseous atom or ion. So, an atom with low ionization means that only amount of energy is required by an atom to lose its loosely bound valence electron. On the other hand, electron affinity is defined as the energy absorbed when an electron is added to an atom or molecule in the gaseous state. So, an atom with high electron affinity means it will readily accept an electron from another atom. Hence, we can conclude that an ionic bond  is most likely to be formed when the ionizationenergy of A is low and the electron affinity of B is high.

Ionic Character of a compound increases with the increase in Lattice energy…. Ionic charecter of a bond is the strength of the force holding ions in place. Lattice energy is the heat required fro breaking up the bond. The more negative the lattice energy, the stronger the force of attraction.

Is it multiple select question Shib

    eduncle-logo-app

    yes sir

    eduncle-logo-app

Then option A,B,C is correct. See to form ionic compound lattice energy must be high.

    eduncle-logo-app

lattice energy is most essential condition.

    eduncle-logo-app

    sir answer is a,b,c

    eduncle-logo-app

yes shib...as the ionisation energy and electron affinity is the main condition if cases arises for lattice energy then it will also be high for ionic compounds ......Lattice energy 'is the energy released when one mole of an ionic compound in crystalline form is formed from the constituent ions'. Therefore, larger lattice energy would favour the formation of an ionic bond.So. a,b,c are correct
