    For jahn tellor distortion check the electronic distribution in t2g and eg set of orbitals considering the ligand strength. If it is asymmetrical in eg set of orbitals then distortion is strong and if in t2g then weak distortion.

    For next question... See any sugar containing hemi acetal group is reducing sugar. Aldehyde group presence also gives positive test with tollens reagent.
