    The explored part of the moon consists dominantly of .basalts and anorthosites. The maria( depressed region) are composed predominantly of basalt, whereas the highland regions are iron-poor and composed primarily of anorthosite, a rock composed primarily of calcium-rich plagioclase feldspar.
