Ques. arrange the following in decreasing order of covalent characters hgci, bacl,, zncl, srcl, cdcl, cacl, sol. s-block have less covalent characters than d-bl

since S-block have less covalent characters than d-block.... then Order should be ZnCl, > CdCl > HgCl > CaCl,>SrCl, > BaCl, > is this correct or the order written in the book is correct??

    S block has less covalent character than d block elements overall order HgCl2>cdcl2>zncl2 for d block for s block cacl2>srcl2>bacl2 Explanation:- we can apply fajan’s rule.. Which states “cation with smaller size and greater charge and anion with larger size and less charge has more polarizing power” So a more covalent compound is formed with smaller cation and larger anion. so order becomes hgcl2>cdcl2>zncl2> cacl2>srcl2>bacl2
