    Correct option has to be (C) ... This is all due to underwater earthquake that triggered the tsunami in Japan . Best way to understand this is to think about the Pacific ring of fire, which is the most active belt comprising major earthquakes and volcanic belts. Or in layman term, most of the world's earthquake and volcanoes are centered at this pacific ring of fire and it is known fact that Japan lies along that ring of fire and hence more chances of getting frequent tsunamis.

    Option-C is correct. Most probable reason of Tsunami is an Earthquake. Japan lies along an active plate margin which causes frequent deep water earthquake. Deep water earthquake causes generation of Tsunami waves. There is no prominent relationship of Japan Tsunami with moon's tidal force, coastal condition or average elevation of Japan. Refer to the attached figure (Source- The Irish Sun) below for relationship of plate tectonics (Earthquake) and Tsunami.
