As you can notice that, 2 is completely parallel to the movement direction of the plates whereas in case 3 that's diagonal two the plate movement direction (not completely parallel) and that's why case 3 is indicating oblique slip faulting. In case 2, there is a condition of oblique slip faulting i.e. the movement along the fault is the combination of strike slip movement (cutting lines indicate strike slip faulting) and normal faulting (arc pattern with tension in the middle indicates normal faulting). In case 3, the diagram is representing pure strike slip faulting.

Answer: (a) 1-P, 2-Q, 3-S, 4-R The shown diagrams are beach ball diagrams of different faulting types. 1. At point 1, two plates are moving away from each other and hence indicating normal faulting at point 1. The beach ball diagram for normal faulting is P (see the attached figure). 2. At point 2, two plates are moving away as well as laterally from each other and hence indicating oblique slip faulting at point 2. The beach ball diagram for oblique slip faulting is Q. 3. At point 3, two plates are moving laterally to each other and hence indicating strike slip faulting at point 3. The beach ball diagram for normal faulting is S (see the attached figure). 4. At point 4, two plates are moving towards each other and hence indicating thrust faulting at point 4. The beach ball diagram for thrust faulting is R (see the attached figure).
