Answer: Within the descending slab Descending slab contains hydrated minerals stable in surface condition. As, subduction happens and lithosphere go down, due to increase in pressure and temperature conditions, the water present in hydrated minerals (stable in surface conditions) come out and result in Metamorphic dewatering. Since, subducting slab contains those minerals, Metamorphic dewatering should be happen within the crustal part of subducting slab. Refer to the figure attached below.
