Garnet is probably an isotropic mineral(belonging to cubic system and remains dark in the crossed polar) , So it will have wavefront that of a circular or spherical would be more precise. All others being anisotropic can have wavefront ranging in shapes. Like if one can take example of Calcite which is an uniaxial mineral so it will have elliptical wave front(it is uniaxial negative so most probably the shape would be resembling that of an oval).

GARNET WILL HAVE A CIRCULAR WAVE FRONT BECAUSE ITS ISOTROPIC IN NATURE SO ALL THE LIGHT WILL TRAVEL IN EQUAL VELOCITY. SO A CIRCULAR WAVE FRONT WILL BE PRODUCED. INCASE OF ANISOTROPIC MINERAL WAVE FRONT WILL BE ELLIPSE.
