Presence of gypsum that is CaSo4.2H2o indicates evaporation condition. High precipitation here precipitation means crystallization from solution when saturation is achieved by means of Evaporation of water. (There is another term precipitation that is rain fall don't be confused with that.) and cold condition why cold because in cold condition the water from water bodies readily evaporate in to atmosphere as the humidity is low in atmosphere. More info:- The gypsum-anhydrite beds with associated carbonate and mud rocks suggest that these sedimentary sequences form in a subaqueous, probably shallow marine marginal setting during Late Carboniferous . how to know gypsum infield, see if you can scratch by finger nail and looking like salt.
