    Answer: (d) 1-Northerly dip, 2-Southerly dip, 3-Southerly dip Explanation- In case-1 the coal seam is dipping towards north because the dip amount of coal seam is less than the valley slope and coal seam (bed) is convex towards north. In case-2 the dip amount of the coal seam is greater than the valley slope and the bed is convex towards north so the situation is reversed here and that's why the dip of the coal seam will be towards south. In case-3 the coal seam is simply dipping towards south i.e. towards downstream side as shown.

    Yes, got it. It should be North, south and south. It is happening because in case-2 the slope of the river valley is greater than the dip amount of the bed. That's why the contour patterns are reversed.
