    Ans (B) The river beds are dipping higher than the coal seam Please see the diagram in the attached figure. You can consider coal bed as a strata. You can compare the attached diagram with the diagram in the question. Please ask me in case of any clarification you need.

    Rule of V is generally used for stratal pattern in a river valley. According to relative dip of strata and valley floor different contour pattern can be generated. In the attached figure, on the left side you can see the relative dip of strata and valley floor and on the right side you can see the respective contour patterns. In exams generally, they will give the contour patterns (on the right column), and will ask about arrangements of strata in the valley.
