    (CH3)2SiCl2 for linear polymerization and (CH3)3SiCl for chain termination. Explanation:- Under hydrolytic conditions, the compound used for the preparation of linear polymer and for chain termination are (CH3​)2​SiCl2​ and (CH3​)3​SiCl respectively. The hydrolysis of dimethyldichlorosilane produces dimethyl silane diol which on condensation polymerization forms a linear polymer. The hydrolysis of trimethylchlorosilane produces trimethyl silanol which cannot undergo polymerization as it contains only one -OH group. Hence, it is used for chain termination.
