is it so that! quorum sensing only happens in biofilms or it is in a coordination with biofilm formation?? if it is, will it increase resistance towards antibiotics or the quorum sensing will affect the biofilm??? in short my question is, is quorum sensing helping in antibiotic resistance or is it affecting the ability of microorganisms to form biofilms? if my question is not clear please let me know!

Quorum sensing is a density dependent communication process. Density dependent means more the number of bacteria more will be the communication. Biofilm is a type of quorum sensing process. When microbes form biofilm at that time they are more resistant to the killing agents like antibiotics as compared to when they are free living. It simply means that formation of biofilm helps them in evading environmental stress like antibiotics and other disinfectants. Quorum sensing doesn't affect the ability of microbes to form biofilms in fact Biofilm formation is a type of quorum sensing. During this phenomenon microbes produce some auto-inducers like peptides and N-acyl homoserine lactone etc.
