Example : Calculate the rate of rotation of the plane of oscillation of a pendulum at latitude 50 time it will take to turn through (i) a full right angle and (i) 60°. Solution: At a latitude = 30°; sin = 2 2t The period of rotation T = - OSin 24x 2= 48 hours. O- 27T Hence rate of rotation = a radian/hour 48 Tt248 12 hou and time taken to turn through (1) a full right angle or t/2 radian =_10 = 12 hou 48 = 8 hours.
