Organisms mainly thrive in shallow marine environment. Due to decrease in shallow water area, most of the organisms got extinct at the boundary. Volcanic activity releases large amount of CO2 in atmosphere, i.e. greenhouse effect and in turn temperature increased. Increasing temperature led to melting of ice and in turn increase in world wide sea level. Deepening of sea will led to decrease in shallow water environment which resulted into extinction.

In the northern hemisphere as there is limited watermass ,when it is warm condition the sea water evaporated and the species got extint. while in the southern hemisphere the watermass was high enough so no impact on evaporation and glaciers started melting so rise of sea level happen in Australia and it become flooded.
