Lid tectonics, commonly thought of as stagnant lid tectonics, is the type of tectonics that is believed to exist on several planets and moons in the Solar System, and possibly existed on Earth during the early part of its history. The lid is the equivalent of the lithosphere in plate tectonics, formed of solid silicate minerals (or solid ice in the case of icy planets and moons)

sir can we say, early lithosphere or part of lithosphere which is not involved in any subduction..is represented by lid tectonics.

Lid tectonics also known as stagnant lid tectonics and generally used for Archaean times. Plate tectonics is a style of convection for an active planetoid where lid fragment (plate) motions reflect sinking of dense lithosphere in subduction zones, causing upwelling of asthenosphere at divergent plate boundaries and accompanied by focused upwellings, or mantle plumes. Any other tectonic style is usefully called “stagnant lid” or “fragmented lid".

sir is the Archean plate was stagnant?

    eduncle-logo-app

Early Earth was an unstable stagnant-lid planet with unsubductable lithosphere. Mantle overturns triggered by inefficient stagnant-lid cooling periodically rehomogenized the mantle, retarding development of depleted mantle reservoirs.
