For IIT-JAM, you only need to focus on different formations from Archaean to Recent. I would suggest you to make a list of different formations from Archaean to Recent in tabular form. Ravindra Kumar's stratigraphy book is more than sufficient for this purpose. There are few important supergroups/groups which you need to study in detail and are very common like Gondwana, Siwalik, Vindhyan, Cuddapah etc.

Prepare chart of whole archean to recent in two cardboard only the tables and remember them thoroughly. Theory is must read once to know the buildup process . But no one will ask the process only they will ask the formation bed and their ages.
