Sir i thought as gypsum and salt will be ans as they are chemically soluble so may be zr and tourmaline can be found along with them.

Zircon and tourmaline are dense, highly insoluble, chemically stable, minor minerals of igneous and metamorphic rocks. In which sedimentary rock might you expect to find these minerals concentrated ?.

Zircon and Tourmaline generally occurs in acidic igneous rocks, they are heavy minerals. weathering of such rocks will lead to concentration of ultra stable minerals such as Quartz, Zircon, Tourmaline in the sediments derived from these rocks. So, the sedimentary rocks containing Quartz rich sediments is probable host for ultra stable heavy minerals such as zircon and Tourmaline and from this bthe the source can be identified. Evaporites form as a result of evaporation of sea water and sea water doesn't contain chemical constituents needed for zircon and Tourmaline.

Zircon and Tourmaline generally occurs in acidic igneous rocks. Extreme weathering of such rocks will lead to concentration of ultra stable minerals such as Quartz, Zircon, Tourmaline in the sediments derived from these rocks. So, the sedimentary rocks containing Quartz rich sediments is probable host for ultra stable heavy minerals such as zircon and Tourmaline. You can't find zircon and Tourmaline in evaporites because evaporites have no source of such heavy minerals. Evaporites form as a result of evaporation of sea water and sea water doesn't contain chemical constituents needed for zircon and Tourmaline.
