In the attached figure; axial planes in both cases are vertical. There are many differences between vertical and upright fold. 1. Upright folds have vertical axial plane and dipping axial plane; whereas Vertical folds have vertical fold axis 2. Vertical fold is a type of neutral fold whereas upright fold is not a type of neutral fold i.e. Antiform and synform can be identified in case of upright fold whereas it's not possible to identify antiform and synform in case of vertical fold (neutral fold)

Vertical axial plane; Both vertical and upright fold have vertical or nearly-vertical axial plane. Difference between vertical and upright fold is given below: 1. The difference is that in case of vertical fold the limbs of the fold is also vertical while in case of upright fold the limbs are not vertical. 2. Second difference is that the vertical fold is a kind of neutral fold and upright fold is not a kind of vertical fold Upright (Open) Fold: vertical/near vertical axial surface and limbs have similar dips (in opposite directions). Vertical fold: Dip amount of both limbs and axial plane is 90 degrees i.e. all are vertical

See the attached file . 1st case Upright- horizontal 2nd case Upright -vertical Upright term related to Axial plane orientation that is vertical vertical and horizontal is related to fold axis
