Sir, please explain. how 2nd option not correct.

Which of the following are NOT criteria for the selection of stratification variables in stratified sampling? The strata should be mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive so that every population element should be assigned to one and only one stratum. Stratifications variables should not be closely related to the characteristic of interest. Stratification variables should be easy to measure and apply.

Try to understand the meaning of the 2nd statement. It is stated that "stratification variables should not be closely related to the characteristics of interest" which means that you doing sampling from strata which is already distinguished. Whenever you do stratified sampling you look for the variation of common variable in stratigraphy and try to correlate the variation with appropriate idea. If the Stratigraphic variables of two strata are not closely related then you can-not look for the common characteristics in both samples. For example, if you are looking for marine microfossil variations in any succession and you are getting two kind of strata; one of marine and other of continental origin. You can not relate those two samples because they are not relatable; you won't find marine microfossil in continental origin sample. So in order to analyse, you must have closely related characteristics between strata of interest for stratified sampling. Feel free to ask if you have any further confusion.
