Mantle materials can't be found directly on surface conditions. Only under very special circumstances such as ophiolites, mantle xenoliths and kimberlites; direct information about mantle materials can be gained. The information about the mantle materials are accessed indirectly by using the properties of seismic waves. The speed variations of p and s wave in mantle give idea about the changing physical properties of mantle materials.

Mantle is very deep inside Earth about greater than 30 km below the crust. But how can we predict mantle is made up of basaltic rock. Direct evidence 1.That is from mid oceanic ridge basalt that is arranged in layered ophiolites ,come to Earth surface due to obduction of ocean floor during collision. 2.Mantle xenolith found in kimberlite pipe . 3.alkali basalt that is from hotspot plumes. Indirect evidence by seismic and magnetic🧲 method
