Sir what he means to sigma angle.

centre is documented by sections perpendicura Orientation of Foliation with Respect to The Shear Zone Orientation Ductile rocks obey the Von Mises failure criterion, the horizontal part of the failure envelope in a Mohr diagram. Accordingly the shear zone in theory initiates at 45 to o, and contains an initial foliation (first incremental XY plane of finite strain) developing perpendicular to o,, i.e. inclined at 45° to the shear zone boundaries. In effect, at any given stage during the "simple" shearing, the instantaneous plane of flattening is at 45° to the shear zone boundaries (i.e. orthogonal to the maximal principal stress). Therefore, the occurrence of the new

Failure envelopes and related fractures. We see that the Mohr diagram mainly consists of three parts; the Griffiths, Coloumb and Von Mises ductile failure criterion. The Griffiths failure criterion (parabolic failure criterion ) is relevant for high cohesive rocks. When cohesion is larger than the differential stress, a mode 1 tensional fracture forms when fluid pressure within the rock is increased. The Coloumb criteria can be reached by increasing the fluid pressure, when the differential stress is larger than the cohesion within the bed forming Mode 2 shear fractures along the internal angle of friction. The Von-Mises ductile failure criterion is relevant for ductile materials

sir foliation is parallel to shear zone and shear zone is perpendicular to principal stress. ? but sir shear is stress applying along the surface, then how it is perpendicular to shear zone.

when we apply shear stress and normal stress on a body, inside that body the whole sum effect of both the stress acts simultaneously and a plane developes in that body which has a shear component and normal component upon it that is the failure plane

According to the paragraph, the formation of first foliation will be perpendicular to sigma1 (principal stress direction) and at 45° angle with respect to shear zone boundary. The same situation is shown in the figure below.

sigma-1 is the principal stress direction. Principal stress is a normal stress. Whenever you talk about stress, there is always a normal and a shearing component associated with the stress.
