THF, tetrahydrofuran is used as solvent in cases where water as solvent is not feasible. For example, B2H6, diborane is an hydride (H-, boron being less electronegative than hydrogen) and hence acid sensitive. B2H6 reacts explosively with water or acids. B2H6 with H2O gives boric acid & H2(g). Whereas THF is a cyclic ether & hence it is basic. Hydrides are stable in basic medium. So whenever LiAlH4 or NaBH4 or B2H6 is involved then THF is preferred as solvent

BH3 is an electron deficient species and can't exit but it exists in the form of dimer i.e., B2H6 where it have octate completed so it is stable. so if we want to stabilize it into BH3 form we have to react with Lewis base i.e., THF. it form stable complex with THF.

ANSWER BH3 is an electron-deficient compound which has an empty p orbital or we can say 6 electrons in its outermost shell. As the size of Hydrogen is small therefore it facilitates the dimerisation of BH3 entered 2 electron bond. This dimerisation results in the formation of diborane, here single hydrogen are shared between two boron atoms.

BH3 is unstable complex so we use b2h6 during the reaction. so we convert B2H 6 into BH3
