Right-circularly polarized light passes through a half-wave plate. What is the polarization of the light emerging from the half-wave plate ? (Hint:A half-wave plate introduces 1800 phase difference between the two orthogonal polarization components, e-ray and o-ray, Right-circularly polarzed Left-circularty polarzed Lnearly polarzed Elliptically polarized View Solution

A half wave plate will flip the handedness of circularly polarised light. It means that the left circularly polarised light will be changed into right circularly polarised light; and right circularly polarised light will change into left circularly polarised light upon passing through a half wave plate. In question it is given that right circularly polarised light is passing through the half wave plate so the emerging light will be left circularly polarised light. So, option B is correct for this question.

Half wave plate is just a crystal of a mineral with particular thickness. It just looks like a transparent crystal.
