Paleoanthropology is the study of the origins and predecessors of the present human species, using fossils and other remains. Paleoecology is the branch of paleontology that studies ancient organisms and their environments. Hominin is the group consisting of modern humans, extinct human species and all our immediate ancestors. In form of diverse assemblage of pollen, vertebrate and invertebrate fossils Indian subcontinent adequately preserves the record of past paleoanthropological activities. Hominin species are the main fossil records found in Quaternary period. Hominin and other vertebrate fossils record can be found in India from various places like Narmada and other rivers, Siwalik hills and Karewa deposits (fluvio-lacustrine).
