Sir, why third is right and rest are wrong.

An 8.5"x 11 map of the United States isa large- Scale map because it illustrates a large geographical area in great detail. An E-size map (44" x 34') of Madison, Wisconsin, is a small-scale map because it illustrates a small geographical area in sparse detail. A map with a scale of 1:10,000 is a large-scale map because it illustrates a small geographical area in large detail. An 8'x 12' map of the world is a large-scale map because it illustrates a large geographical area and is a large map.

Dear student, you should understand the difference between large scale and small scale map. A large scale map covers a small ground area on large map area. Large scale map shows very small features (like roads, rail tracks, mosque etc.). Option A is incorrect because the area of United States is very large and 8.5"x11" map (small map area) can not be a large scale map because large scale map shows very small features like roads, ponds etc. You can't show all roads of US on 8.5"x11" map. So option 1 is incorrect. Option B is also incorrect. 44"x34" map of Madison will be a large scale map because you can show minute features (like road, rail tracks etc.) of Madison (a small part of USA) on a map with large area (44"x34"). Option C is obviously incorrect because you can't show minute features (characteristics of large scale map) of world on a map with very small area 8'x12'.
