Answer is (D). Basilar membrane is present in inner ear which also contains vestibular apparatus. Linear acceleration is body is sensed by utricle and saccule of vestibular apparatus. This causes movement in cochlear fluid due to which basilar membrane vibrates. Basilar membrane also contains sensory receptor hair cells which are sensitive to sound waves. So, the correct answer is 'Vibrates when body is subjected to linear acceleration'.
