    The number of generator in zn is phi of n , here you just take n= 36 we get phi of 36 which is equal to 12.

    The number of generators in Zm is equal to the cardinality of set of all numbers relatively prime to m. The number of postive integers which are relatively prime to 36 is 12. Therefore there are 12 generators.
