In Brown ring iron is in +1 Oxidation State

The oxidation state of Fe in the brown ring complex is +1 and the electronic configuration thus becomes 3d64s1. Then the weak field ligand water and strong field ligand attack the metal ion and change the configuration to 3d74s0 and therefore the complex is left with 3 unpaired electrons.

The oxidation state of Fe in the given complex is +1. Therefore, its configuration becomes 3d64s1. When the weak feild ligand like water and strong field ligand like NO attacks the configuration changes to 3d74s0. Hence , the number of unpaired electrons in the 3d subshell is 3. Therefore option B is correct.
