    You got it completely, Madhu?

    Ashutosh singh Best Answer

    Cl2, hv causes monochlorinated products.

    eduncle-logo-app

    Look at this. You'll understand.

Just go through all my comments once, you'll get the whole concept. Fractional distillation doesn't differentiate between optical and geometrical isomers.

Dear student, fractional distillation means seperation of compounds on the basis of specificity of boiling points. So, we cannot find the geometrical and stero isomerism using fractional distillation. But we can find the form of the substance whether it is gas or solid or liquid using fractional distillation.

sir., i have asked you some doubt! yesterday hope you didn't receive! can i make sure that you'll clear it today?

    eduncle-logo-app

Dear Madhu, I didn't receive anything. You can ask today, no worries.

    yes, wait

    eduncle-logo-app

here 6 isomers obtained out of which 4 can be separated

    eduncle-logo-app

when the monochlorination reaction proceed by the 2 methyl butane , we get 4 isomers (ignoring optical isomers ) in form of the product . isomers have identical chemical formula but their structure are different each other.

    eduncle-logo-app

enantiomers can't be separated by any physical method

    eduncle-logo-app

    got it??

    eduncle-logo-app

so is there no need of making decisions with respect to stability? because in accordance with stability. only one product is possible!

    eduncle-logo-app

    no no

    eduncle-logo-app

also kindly explain me the other 2 isometric products sir

    eduncle-logo-app

here i and ii are enantiomers so their mirror image can't be separated. and iii, iv are optically inactive so these can be separated

    eduncle-logo-app

so total 4 forms can be separated by frictional distillation

    eduncle-logo-app

diastereoisomers have different physical properties so they can be separated but enantiomers can't be separated

    eduncle-logo-app

    got it?

    eduncle-logo-app

please accept the answer if you got it πŸ™πŸ™

  • Madhumathy

    kindly explain me this sirπŸ™πŸ½

    eduncle-logo-app

    Have a look.

    eduncle-logo-app

sir in second structure..the carbon which is attached to Cl isn't a chiral carbon. but you have taken the other carbon (chiral)which is next to it why so?
