Minerals in geology should have following properties 1.solid 2. naturally occurring 3.inorganic 4. crystalline. Two types of mineral present. 1. rock forming 2.ore forming 1. rock forming like quartz, feldspar, mica, amphibole these are nonmetallic. 2.ore forming like hematite, bauxite, pyrite these are Metallic Not related to any appearance or lusture. coal, oil are also valuable materials but organic in layman term we also call them mineral fuel .

Sir,Do you think that Sand and gravel are minerals ?? Ok they are naturally occurring +homogenoues+solid+inorganic origin!!.But I am not sure about their crystallinity and deginite chemical composition..I have read that sand is a sediment which mostly consists of quartz mineral and feldspars,to lesser extent .I have never seen yet that Sand is itself a mineral.

Metallic Minerals - are the minerals that have one or more metallic element and the metals can be extracted from that through physical or chemical means. for example - magnetite , Gibbsite , chalcopyrite etc.

  • Ariyan

Nonmetallic minerals - are, for example, sand, gravel, Limestone, and Marble. Such materials lack metallic characteristics like good electric and thermic conductivity, luster, rigor, and malleability

First of all sand ,gravel is sediment. And Limestone is sedimentary rock. And Marble is metamorphic rock. Why you are calling these minerals.

Oh my bad...I was trying to say the constituent minerals for these rocks are of the Nonmetallic origin...
