What is a sill?

    Well I will keep it simple . Sill is basically a Plutonic Or igneous body that form essentially parallel to the country rock Or if one apply any special term for this, then it's a concordant pluton. There are basically two types of igneous bodies --Concordant and Discordant bodies. Sill comes under the concordant plutons cuz they don't really intrude the country rock or their parent rock. While various bodies like dykes, batholith, stocks are discordant plutons cuz they intrude the country rock. For more clarification, Sill occur in parallel to the bedding of the other rocks that enclose them, and, though they may have vertical to horizontal orientations, nearly horizontal sills are the most common or more pronounced.
