What is blistered appearance means what here ?

Copper that is 97 to 98 percent pure, produced by smelting is called as Blister Copper. It has a blistery surface caused by sulfur dioxide bubbles. See the image

The slightly impure copper had impurities, mostly sulphur dioxide which bubbled up through the copper as it solidified. That gave a blistered surface and the results of the smelting were called blister copper. It had to be worked to release all the gas.
