Congruent melting occurs during melting of a compound when the composition of the liquid that forms is the same as the composition of the solid. incongruent melting take a general case, let A and B be the two components and AB a stable solid compound formed by their chemical combination. In continuous series like solid solution series in Ab & An case the initial melt composition is equal to final solid. In discontinuous series left arm of Bowens series it's initial composition is not final solid composition.
