    Geosyncline, linear trough of subsidence of the Earth's crust within which vast amounts of sediment accumulate.  Now this term is outdated basin is used. Orogenesis means mountain building process. three stages: (1) accumulation of sediments, (2) an orogenic period of rock deformation and crustal uplift, (3) a period of crustal uplift caused by isostatic rebound and block-faulting.
