Gravity anomaly is mainly the variation in Gravity field from observed gravity field at any point on Earth's surface. The g value is calculated on basis of reference ellipsoid(mathematical surface best fitting the geoid) by differentiating gravity potential with respect to r. Gravity anomalies which are local variations of gravity field can be positive or negative. Positive anomaly means that that point exhibits more gravity than predicted by model whereas negative anomaly means that point exhibits lower value. Corrections are made for this which are due to mass effect, elevation effect or tidal effect. Gravity anomalies are reported in the order of mGal generally where Gal is C.G.S unit of g. g at Earth's surface generally considered 981 Gals.
