If all the hybrid orbitals of central atom contain only bond pair of electrons then the molecules will have regular geometry. Ex- CH4,CCl4 etc. If  hybrid orbitals of central atom contain lone pair and bond pair of electrons then the molecules will have irregular geometry. Ex- H20,NH3,SF4 etc

Regular geometry means lone pairs of electrons must be absent around the centrat atom. due to this there is no bond pair -bond pair repulsion and shape or geometry will be according to VSEPR theory. let's take some examples 1) CCl4 - here sp3 hybridisation and lone pair is absent so shape as well as geometry will be tetrahedral and Bond angle is 109°> 2) NH3 - here one lone pair is present so there is lp-bp repulsion so no regular geometry/shape. here bond angle < 109°
