What is saponification number? and what should be the answer?

    Saponification value or saponification number (SV or SN) represents the number of milligrams of potassium hydroxide (KOH) required to saponify one (1)gram of fat under the conditions specified.  It is a measure of the average molecular weight (or chain length) of all the fatty acids present in the sample as triglycerides. The smaller the saponification value, the higher the fatty acids average length, the heavier the mean molecular weight of triglycerides. So higher the melting point of Fat. R is not correct here as the extent of unsaturation in fats is determined by iodine number not saponification number. Significance of saponification number 👇
