As the melt crystallize to form ore bodies, the minerals that form - mostly quartz and feldspars - do not contain H2O or CO2. As their mineral-forming constituents are removed from the melt, the concentration of excluded components, e.g., gases, increases again to a point where the melt can no longer hold all of its dissolved gas, and bubbles form. Geologists refer to this as "second boiling".

second boiling is the process in which it is also possible to achieve saturation with respect to an aqueous fluid by progressive crystallization of dominantly anhydrous minerals under isobaric conditions, and this process is referred to specifically as "second boiling." Second boiling generally occurs in more deep-seated magmatic systems and occurs only after a relatively advanced stage of crystallization.
