A pure dipole means there are two equal and opposite charge only separated by a small distance. It only have dupole moment. But for a charge distribusion in addition with dipole moment we will have quadrupole, octapole moment also. For charge distribusion dipole moment is not q*l, here we have to find the dipole moment for the whole distribusion. It is called physical dipole.

A pure dipole is called "pure" is because it only has a dipole moment. A physical dipole will have quadrupole moments, etc. The spherical harmonic expansion of the potential has an infinite number of non-zero terms. .......if you have any doubt drop a msg best regards
