    I.    Physical deterioration which includes following factors: i) Light, ii) Heat (Temperature), iii) Relative humidity, iv) Natural Ageing, v) Darkness 
    II.    Chemical deterioration which includes following factors: i) Acidity can be introduced by natural ageing, manufacturing defect, use of acidic ink and pigments, acidic pollutants, microbial growth etc. ii) Effect of environmental pollutants- dust and dirt, acidic gases, inert gases etc. 
    III.    Biological deterioration which includes following factors: i) Micro-organisms- fungus and bacteria. ii) Macro-organisms- insects and rodents. 
    IV.    Others which include i) Human factors such as- mismanagement, mishandling and vandalism. ii) Natural calamity- flood and earthquake. iii) Accidental calamity- fire and water-logging.
