There are 5 IITs currently which are providing geology as a subject for M.sc/M.sc(Tech). They are IIT Bombay, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Bhubaneswar and ISM Dhanbad. According to primitive Geology student's tendency, the highest rankers opt for either IIT Bombay or IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. ISM Dhanbad is considered such because it provides the integrated course of M.sc and M.tech and that too in a duration of only 3 years. ISM also experiences the maximum number of campus placements companies where as this later factor is doubtful in case of the other four IITs. The duration of M.sc course in these four IITs is 2 years. Students prefer these four in the order of IIT Bombay > IIT Kharagpur > IIT Roorkee > IIT Bhubaneswar. If your rank is AIR 30, it depends on your category you belong to. If you are general, try your luck at IIT Bombay or IIT ISM Dhanbad in the very beginning. If not, I hope you click IIT Kharagpur at the worst possible case.
