Best dating methods depend on the age of rocks you want to date. Also, all Isotopes will not be available in each rock and each Isotopes have specific half life. Based on half life of Isotopes, age of rock and absence/presence of Isotopes, a particular dating method can be used. There is nothing like one dating method is better than other. Each dating methods have their own pros and cons.

Depending upon how old the rock is..The best-known techniques for radioactive dating are radiocarbon dating, potassium-argon dating and uranium-lead dating. the greater the half life the older.rock can be dated From the question Rb-Sr can be best one

for 5 billion years old rock, which is best suited---- k-ar or rb-sr?

so that my doubt arise- as rb will take 49 billion yr to one half life. which will be very difficult to compare with 5 billion. but in k- ar it will take 6 to 7 half lives, we can easily measure amount.

no no ....your thinking is obvious....but things are not like that....if you are dating some 5 Billion year rock then all the K parent will be lost as it has a less half life. but Rb parent will be present...

okay... so should have both the quantities of parent & daughter, to measure and calculation. so half life total age jada ho toh bettr hoga.
