keep on mind also one thing about electroneutrality principle that in the transition metal series the nickel, copper etc mainly prefer to take coordination number 4..because electrons in d orbitals increases from left to right in transition metal series and more CN means more ligand .so electron density on metal ion is more...so stability decreases

if suppose CN 6 is there with nickel complex..then it is possible only when it is attached with more electronegative ligand like H20 ,NH3,F etc...so that EN atom in this ligand attract the pair of electrons and stabilises the complex

Example Ni(h20)6 2+,Ni(nh3)6 2+ ,NiF6 4- exist but Ni(Cl)6 4- doesn't exist...so this is the application of electroneutrality principle...it can say thr existence of some complex

for Ni oxidation state in general is Ni(0) and Ni2+

also if atom have more oxidation state then it can have more coordination number...less OS less CN
