    Methanol is simply more acidic than waterjust because its pKa value is less than that of water. And the less numerical pKa value a compound has, more acidic the compound is. pKa value of water and methanol are 15.7 and 15.5 respectively. Not much difference , still this much only makes the Methanol to be called more acidic. The lower magnitude of pKa of Methanol accounts for its more acidity.
